East Coast and rural community vaccination

Nana, Tomairangi and Gina Chaffey

People living in townships on the East Coast or rural Tairāwhiti will be vaccinated in their community. This work, which is being organised by Ngāti Porou Hauora and Tūranga Health, has begun. COVID-19 vaccinations are being offered to the whole community in one go rather than rolling out vaccinations based on the national sequencing framework.

This flexible approach makes sense to optimise the number of people vaccinated in these communities. It also reduces the risk of waste because of the complex logistics required for the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.
