Jim has a Masters Degree in Developmental Psychology, a BSc in Biochemistry, a Diploma in Business Administration and is a Registered Nurse.  Working in health for the past 30 years his career has progressed through clinical nursing roles and in to general management culminating in his current role as Chief Executive of Hauora Tairāwhiti. 

Jim has always held an interest in the workforce and how it can be applied to the needs of people requiring health services, very much centred around dual interests of services for children, young people and their families and services for Māori.  As a DHB Chief Executive he has taken on national roles around workforce including being a member of the Health Sector Relationship Agreement Steering Group.

From a local perspective Jim has an interest if the effectiveness of the work of Hauora Tairāwhiti in meeting the needs of the people of Tairāwhiti in the most efficient manner possible given the unique operating environment of Tairāwhiti. Most specific among the needs is the elimination of inequity in health outcomes for Māori, and the improvement of health outcomes for all. The drive is to action this both through Hauora Tairāwhiti and across the wider social sector, in partnership with iwi through Manaaki Tairāwhiti, the locally based investing in social wellbeing pilot.
