Tairāwhiti COVID update - 56 new local cases, RAT updates

There are 56 new cases to report today.  One person remains in a stable condition in hospital and we now have 332 active cases of COVID-19 in isolation.

Thank you for helping to slow the spread of Omicron over the weekend. It was a huge weekend of vaccinations with nearly 500 people turning out to get a shot! Ka pai Tairāwhiti!

Please continue to wear masks whenever you can, wash hands regularly and keep distance from others.

To the hundreds of people in Tairāwhiti who are in isolation, thank you for the sacrifice you are making to keep others safe. Kia kaha.

Here’s some key information heading into this week:

•            RAT tests are available to anyone with symptoms or household contacts of positive cases.

•            RAT tests can be collected on behalf of someone else. You need their NHI numbers or names and dates of birth.

•            RAT tests are available to all ages from 6 months old.

•            The Salvation Army is open from 10am to 2pm daily for RAT collection. Call Te Puia Hospital for testing information if you live on the coast. Please bring your NHI (patient) number.

•            If you test positive from a RAT test, you are classified as positive for COVID-19 and don’t need a follow-up PCR nasal swab at Watson Park or Te Puia Hospital. For support, see https://covid19.health.nz/advice/positive
