Tairāwhiti has a completely confidential Community Clinic on 141 Bright Street (the building behind Farmers). This service provides free and confidential sexual and reproductive health services, including:

  • Sexual health screening and treatment
  • Cervical screening
  • Contraception with emphasis on long-acting methods
  • Free non-scalpel vasectomy
  • Immunisation
  • Transgender prescribing
  • Pregnancy testing, work up and referral
  • Early pregnancy decision making counselling and care
  • First-trimester pregnancy loss, miscarriage, abortion

People can self-refer to this clinic or referral by their general practitioner.

Your GP

Your GP or Practice nurse can provide sexual health and contraceptive services. 

At all Tairāwhiti Pinnacle GP practices; if you are under 25 all of your sexual services are free. Women aged 25-44 may still be eligible for free contraception consultations and procedures (contact your GP practice to enquire). 

All medical consults are free, including sexual health services, if you are registered at any of the following services:

  • Ngati Porou Hauora Uawa Health Centre 
  • Ruatoria Health Centre
  • Tokomaru Bay Health Clininc 
  • Matakaoa Health Centre
  • Waikohu Health Centre
  • Tawhiti Health Centre
